"Fresh and Simple" A Touch of Hawaiiana |
|
"My friend ordered the Chicken and Shrimp dinner
served with angel hair pasta. The cook freshly builds the dish in a saute pan,
using ingredients of fresh tomatoes, basil, garlic, olive oil and grilled
veggies. "Outstanding" is a description I would use. My order of lightly grilled
medallions of Mahi was placed atop stir-fried vegetables and soba noodles mixed
with a "just-right" teriyaki ginger sauce. Another winning meal." |

Hawaii Island
Journal, by Brian Berry |

"Here's a refreshing change of pace, a chance to
escape the high-priced resorts and the constant bustle of Kailua-Kona's main
drag to rub elbows with the locals. Cheery, colorful, and relaxed. Jackie Rey's
is a real neighborhood find with a surprisingly sophisticated menu, warm
service, and an impressively talented kitchen staff. Drop in at lunch for
beer-battered fish and chips, a kalua turkey wrap with avocado and melted Swiss
cheese, or a half-pound cheddar burger with a side of curly fries. For dinner,
Angie's salad is a lavish composition featuring fresh spinach greens, blue
cheese, candied walnuts, papaya and onions in a raspberry balsamic vinaigrette.
The seared ahi with crispy noodles and Asian vegetables is always in demand, as
are the sweetly zesty Korean-style beef short ribs, which may be ordered as
either an appetizer or an entree. The nightly specials include several fresh
catches done with tempting preparations. The desserts are top-notch and a keiki
(children's) menu makes things easy for Mom and Dad. The wine list is
thoughtfully chosen and extremely, well-priced. A definite winner -- and an
excellent value to boot, all things considered." |
